Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask

I cannot believe that I have not shared my review of the Watermelon Sleeping Mask from Glow Recipe until now. I was so sure that I had! However, the wait is over, that is, if any of you are curious to find out my thoughts on the product and if you haven’t already read enough opinions…

It has been quite some time since the brand was released on this side of the Atlantic. I remember just how badly I wished that it would launch in the UK… Those were the times.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask Review

The Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask is a cult product. In fact, this is most likely the most famous product the brand has ever released and which propelled it to where it is now. Everyone tried it at least once, from famous influencers to micro-bloggers and everyone in between.

I had to give it a try. It is pretty obvious, right? I just had to and not because so many people liked it, but because I am quite skeptical when so many people love something.

The Watermelon Sleeping Mask is a mask that you apply at night, right before going to bed. To my surprise, the product gets absorbed completely so there is no need to worry about getting the product onto your pillowcase. That is definitely a plus as unlike other products of its kind, this one works when it comes to this aspect. You do need to wash it in the morning though. So there is that.

You can also use the mask in a thicker layer and leave on for 20 or so minutes if overnight ain’t your jam.

Another big aspect that it is hard to ignore is the scent of this product. The product smells like watermelon/candy. The fragrance is really pleasant.

In addition, the Watermelon Sleeping Mask has a beautiful watery texture which is really soothing. I really like it to be honest. It is perfect, especially in summer.

However, does the mask do anything? Like for real.

Honestly, it is hard to say. I have not observed any wow inducing effects, however I cannot say that it did not do anything either. After use, the skin does seem a bit more plump and hydrated. The dry patches on my face feel more soothed, that is for sure.

In terms of ingredients, this sleeping mask does not rank too bad. The ingredients are quite good, especially for those with dry, normal and oily skin, but less so for those with sensitive skin.

Those with sensitive skin might not find this mask to be a good addition to their routine due to some of the ingredients used, starting with the use of alcohol which can irritate and ending with Glycolic and Lactic Acid. Those with sensitive skin might find these ingredients irritating and simply too much.

The Watermelon Mask contains a series of moisturising ingredients, similar to the ones found in the Huxley Secret of Sahara Fresh and More Cream. However, the use of alcohol can pose a problem for those with dry skin as well. Alcohol can dry out the skin so if you have dry skin, you should definitely do a patch test before and see whether your skin can handle this product and whether the moisturising ingredients are worth the risk.

Those with oily skin such as myself might find the sleeping mask just fine and I cannot foresee any major issues arsing from its use. In fact, the product was formulated with Glycolic Acid, as mentioned above, and this ingredient can help regulate the production of sebum so yay for that. There are no other ingredients as far as I can tell that could cause issues, but as always, a patch test is advised.

Okay, as for my personal experience, I have oily skin and have not encountered any issues even after repeated uses of the Watermelon Sleeping Mask from Glow Recipe. My dry patches did enjoy the moisturising effects of this product, the oily bits did seem less greasy. However, the product still did not manage to convince me that it is the greatest thing out there as some major beauty gurus wanted to make us believe. It is good though, I give it that.

The Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask is a good product, but it is not something I can see myself using for a very long time. It is nice to use every once in a while. The texture is nice, especially in summer and especially after you keep the product in the fridge for a while. It is soothing, but… There is just something missing or maybe I reached an age where I appreciate more potent anti-ageing products more. This is a good starter product for those who have not used acids before though. So if you do not have lots of experience with potent ingredients, then maybe this is a good start. Those who have used stronger products might not find this mask as beneficial. Also, this is not something I would recommend if you are over 40. You can purchase it if you want, your money and all that, but I don’t think you will have much use for it.

  1. I think it’s such a shame when brands use alcohol in their product. Do you ever sometimes feel like: ‘Please just give me a product where I don’t need to worry about my skin, the way it’s produced and the ingredients list?’. Thank you for such a thorough review!! xx

    1. All the time! I am lucky not to have too many issues and do not react to many ingredients but better safe than sorry, plus there are more people who do need to avoid certain ingredients than not. At least that is how it feels lately. Thank you for stopping by!
