Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask Review

glossier moon mask

As some of you might by now, I have had a long and complicated relationship with Glossier over the years. While you might have seen many people raving about a product or another, I was not quite as on board. For that reason, I haven’t really posted any review on Glossier expect for this one on the Glossier Stretch Concealer and on the Lip Gloss.

It’s been a long time since I started using products from the brand and I have tried them again and again, I want to share with you the review of the Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask.

Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask

The Moisturizing Moon Mask is one of the first products that I purchased from the brand. As you can imagine, it has been a while. Well, you don’t have to imagine it as I already mentioned it a few too many times in this short article. You get my point. I had the mask for a while and I used it quite a few times as well so now I can finally state my opinion without being influenced by any outside sources. Not that I usually am, influenced that is. As always, I try to remain as unbiased as I can, even though I have to admit that I have not been as unbiased as I would have liked in recent posts, particularly those on the beauty gifts with purchase.

Anyway, let’s get back on track. Shall we? Okay, so as I was saying, by now I have a clear idea what the Moisturising Moon Mask is all about and I want to share my opinion on the product with all of you.

The Moisturising Moon Mask from Glossier is meant to act a soothing treatment. That much is clear from its description. And it sort of does do that, but it has to be one of the weirdest products of its kind and with its ingredients that I have ever used. Not going to even think about just how many grammar mistake the previous sentence contained.

The Moisturising Moon Mask is formulated using a blend of almond old, liquorice extract, hyaluronic acid, plant-based squalene among others. However, even though the mask does feel sort of nice and a bit soothing on the skin, it does not really do any of the things some of the ingredients mentioned above do in other formulations or on their own.

The Glossier mask even though is supposed to be not just soothing, but also help with hydration and fine lines as well an add a tiny bit of brightness to the skin, it does not do much of any of those things. Yes, the mask can be slightly soothing and the skin might seem insignificantly more plump and a tiny bit brighter, but for such an acclaimed and popular product it is disappointing to note that the mask is trying to achieve too many things and it fails to deliver on most, if not all accounts.

Furthermore, a closer look at the ingredients show that a series of these can led to fungal acne to flare up. Such ingredients include, but are not limited to Sweet Almond, Shea Butter, Soybean.  In addition to these ingredients, there are also silicones included in the formulation, silicones such as Dimethicone and Cyclopentasiloxane. And let’s not forget that the list of ingredients contains at least four components that might clog the pores and lead to blackheads. That is simply not okay. The list of ingredients shows way too many issues before you even try the mask on so for that reason I honestly do not get why so many people swear by this product.

Luckily, I did not break out from using this product, but then again I used it one in a blue moon and just enough to see for myself what the fuss is about.

It is safe to say that I don’t get the fuss nor do I want to continue using the product. I tried it, I formed an opinion and now it is time for the jar to say its goodbye as it is going straight into the rubbish bin.

I am sorry if I disappointed some of you, but I want to help you make informed decision about the products you choose to include into your skincare routine. I might not be an expect, but I amassed quite a bit of knowledge and experience over the years. Plus, my science degree needed to come in handy somewhere… Just because I do not believe in this product, that does not mean that I do not admire the company as a whole. I believe that what the founder managed to achieve in such a short period of time is simply incredible and that the Glossier marketing team is one of the best teams out there, but that does not mean that the huge amount of hype they managed to generate is truly because of the products they came out with.

A few other things you might be interested to know about the mask is that the texture of the mask is pretty okay. The mask is soft and creamy. The brand claims that the mask is fragrance free and while it might not contain any synthetic fragrances, it does have an acceptable, but not very appealing scent to it.

Overall, I cannot in good faith recommend this product. I get that you are curious, but there are better ways to spend your money and if you truly want to get something from Glossier in the near future then have a look at their Stretch Concealer.

Have you used the Moisturising Moon Mask before? What are your thoughts?

  1. Ahhh that’s disappointing, I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but had heard bad things about the ingredients in the past. Safe to say I’ll be giving this one a miss 🙁

  2. Hi Nana, thank you for a comprehensive review! I particularly appreciate you mentioned the ingredients and possible adverse effects they can cause. I’m still very much confused when I look at INCI, so every bit of guidance here helps.
I am a new reader of your blog but already a regular 🙂

    1. Hello! Thank you for your message and your support. I love hearing from my followers. It truly means a lot. Hope to ‘see’ you again over here soon. 🙂

  3. I honestly figured a lot of the hype was purely…hype. I haven’t had the urge to try Glossier’s skincare and don’t think I will any time soon. Thanks for the honest review!
