What do you think of the Net-a-Porter Beauty kits?

Personally, I love the idea behind these kits. These are super cute beauty collections and for the value they provide, they are also incredibly affordable for luxurious items. Furthermore, if you get all the kits you get almost the same amount of products as you would in a beauty advent calendar, however the value would be at the upper end of the scale while the price would be just in line with that of a luxurious advent calendar.

In terms of products, I don’t have many comments as I have yet to try most of these, however the brands are pretty great so I do have high hopes for the products included as well.

Overall, I am quite tempted by these kits. How about you?

  1. I ordered the City Essentials Beauty Kit. My impressions are mixed, mostly because the expiry date of the sun screens is way to close to the date of purchase. The Barbara Sturm one will expire in December, the Hamptons Sun in February. When I complained, I got the following explanation which I frankly don’t agree with:

    “Thank you for contacting NET-A-PORTER.

My sincerest apologies for any concern or disappointment caused by the expiration dates on two of the many products included in the NET-A-PORTER City Essentials Beauty Kit.

I can only hope that the following information assuages some of your concerns but the dates on the packaging of beauty products are most commonly sell-by dates.

Cosmetic expiration is a tricky topic, but ultimately there are two main dates to watch out for; the first being the sell-by date or in some cases the batch number, and the second being the actual expiration, which is typically stylized as a number within a jar or component. The product begins the process of oxidizing and the number notated on the jar offers insight into when expiration happens, most commonly indicated as being months or years from the open date.

I hope this information was helpful. As the products have been sold well before their sell-by date I cannot offer compensation at this time.

Should you for any reason be less than comfortable in spite of the information provided above, I would be happy to assist with return.

Do let me know if I may provide any further assistance in the meantime.”

I ended up keeping the kit as I like most of the products, however, I would normally expect a sunscreen to expire at least one year later than the date of purchase. A value claim of 334 GBP is simply misleading given the fact that you’re only able to use a product for 3 months, especially when we’re talink about a sunscreen sold in September. I’m a bit disappointed to be honest.

    1. First of all, my apologies for taking this long to get back to you. Your comment ended up in SPAM for some reason. I am sorry you had such an unpleasant experience when it comes to shopping at Net-a-Porter. I also appreciate you sharing your experience so that everyone else knows what to expect. It is very important for us as community to share our experience and learn from each other so that we can make informed decisions. Okay, now that sounded so much like I am part of the customer service team at a company or another. I am so not! I do however feel bad that you had to go through this and it is very unexpected. I had higher expectations from Net-a-Porter. It is really not okay to have products expiring in just a few months when you purchase them. Sadly, I have seen this happening more and more, but not at luxury retailers. I might have to do with the period and the circumstances we find ourselves in, but still that is no excuse.

As for not having a great use of SPF in the next few months, I do not agree as SPF is necessary regardless of weather and time of the year. That is just me, however still not okay for the product to expire so soon after purchase.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and fro stopping by! 🙂 It is lovely to see new people on here.

      1. For me it’s dishonesty not to inform about expiration date if it’s within months. That looks like stock clearing and should rather be on sale with appropriate information. Such practices don’t become luxury retailers :/

      1. Cannot comment as I do not know. However in general I noticed that things are not as great or new in most stores/cases. However, there are always returns and refunds. familiarize yourself with the policies before placing the order. The advent calendar was fine and all the products in it. That is all I can add
