Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I am back with another review and this time I will talk about two products that were included in the 2020 Net-a-Porter Beauty Advent Calendar. Since these two products go together, I thought it would be best to talk about them at the same time.

Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner

Despite the luxurious packaging and product variety, I never felt tempted to get any Oribe products. All the products I tried were included in gifts or beauty advent calendars. This is no different. However, for the first time ever, I did spend more time trying the products rather than chunking them in a box and forgetting about them for too long or giving them away to someone who would appreciate them more. I feel bad about saying this, but it is true. This time around I decided to keep an open mind and use up the products.

What did I think about them?

Both the shampoo and the conditioner were great. I rarely find a conditioner that I like and this one definitely did the trick.

The Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner have a gorgeous fragrance, but I would not say they are identical. The conditioner seems to be a bit more fragranced than the shampoo, at least in my experience. Also, that intensity makes it easier to distinguish them even with you eyes closed. It might matter if you like me, hate getting water into your eyes while showering and grab your bottles with your eyes closed. TMI, I know! Anyway…

The Gold Lust Shampoo from Oribe in particular reminds me a bit of the Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa range. Not in the beginning, but as you begin to wash it off, the scent is like a more refined, a classier, more elegant, call it what you want, version of that scent. At leats that is how it felt to me. The overpowering ingredient that makes that fragrance stand out is more mellowed down here and thus creates a different fragrance, but to me, they are similar – again, not identical. Maybe there are different notes altogether, but that is what this product reminded me of.

The Conditioner is a bit different and the fragrance in that product is more intense. I would not say this one reminded of the Sol de Janeiro range. This I don’t know what to compare it to.

I thought you might want to know. Not sure whether I did a good job of explaining it as I have no idea how to describe fragrances (does anyone really?), but this is the best I can do.

Okay, so how about the products themselves? Do they work?

They do! The shampoo left my hair very shiny and healthy looking. I would not say that it looked magazine shiny as we all know that takes many hours of saloon treatments plus a bit of photoshop, but shiny and gorgeous. The conditioner helped detangle my hair and soften the tips. The two products together, despite being quite moisturising did not leave my hair super flat. I was still left with a bit of volume which I can totally get behind.

Okay, all great so far. Would I reuse the products? Totally. There is no question in my mind about that. Would I re-purchase them though? This one is tough. Probably not.

I use expensive shampoos in general which I adore, but these two products are a bit much to repurchase, especially to repurchase often. A 250 ml shampoo retails for around £46. I won’t insult your intelligence and say that it is out of my budget, luckily it is not, but it is not an expense I need to make either.

Look, if you try this product and consider it the best you ever used and it works better for your hair than anything else, then it is worth it, especially if it does not make a dent. However, with so many great options out there, especially more affordable ones I am definitely in no hurry to repurchase these two products. Once again, this does not mean that they are not great.

Where can you purchase the Oribe Gold Lust Range from?

Have you tried this range before? Would you? Do you have any favourite products from Oribe?
