Twelfth Month on a beauty Ban

And we made it. This is the report for the 12th month. I honestly cannot believe I managed to stick with this for so long. Despite not hearing it in years, I still remember being told that I do not stick to one thing for too long… Wow, now where did that came from? It seems that somewhere deep inside my subconscious, I still sort of believe that. Hmm, it is quite interesting the things that came out and the things we recall at random moments in time, isn’t it?

It is no longer true obviously. I can clearly stick to things for longer periods of time. I have been blogging for 10 years and 3 days. Would it weird you out if I told you that I remember what I was wearing, the length of my hair and my hairstyle at the exact moment? I admit that I do tend to remember random stuff such as this, but in this particular case I remember because of the circumstances at that time. I needed an escape and I found it through blogging. Too bad I am still stumbling so many years later, right? In full disclosure, the first platform I build and still have to this day ( I wonder why sometimes, especially since I wanted to relaunch and never quite did so) I launched a few months later on the 18th of May, but that day in late December changed my life. Okay, I am going to stop now as I am being way too sappy. Let’s get back on topic.

So I have been writing these reports for 12 months. Now it would be a good moment to write up all the things I learnt and how these reports helped despite the mess I made of them over the past year. Not so fast though, I will share all of that soon in a separate post (as well as the way I plan on continuing with this experiment next year). In the meantime, here are the numbers for the month of December.

You read that right, my purchase list is way smaller than my empties list. Not just that, but I actually used up more than I purchased in terms of value. How did that happen? Honestly, I have no clue. I have been simply pretty uninspired by everything I’ve seen lately. None of the pre-Christmas nor any of the Boxing Day offers caught my attention. My pride and joy purchase is the Style Box from Latest in Beauty, but other than that… everything was the same old, same old. I know that I picked up a few extra products and my visit to Sephora should have been avoided as initially planned, but I had not been inside the store in a couple of months and thought I should check out some of their Christmas specials since I was there. Not a good idea, but I do not regret my purchases for the most part. I am pretty sure I could have done without the TonyMoly mask though as I have a feeling I won’t be using that one, at least not enough to have been worth it. Other than that, I am happy with my results.

Initially I had this whole speech planned, but then I decided to write a separate post for this year’s results, what I learnt and how this experiment changed my shopping habits. Also, I will share how I plan on continuing to do this next year.

Overall, I am proud of my December results, even if the number of review could have been higher. It is never enough, is it? That is the story of my life. I always want to do better and spend more time freaking out than focusing on how to actually achieve that.

The idea is that I am pretty happy with the results. They can look pretty bad, but again, you need to remember that each one of us has a different reference point and if I compare my results for this year to those from last year… This year’s results are nothing short of incredible. Stay tuned for the overall year reports and the plan for next year.

Happy New Year!

  1. Love this. The past couple of years I’ve only really treated myself to beauty bits near black friday/christmas but lockdown meant I have ordered all year long. This year I’m reigning it in. So each emptu you finish do you give yourself half that amount to spend? X

    1. Yes. For minis, I calculate their worth and for palettes, you can calculate each pan or wait till the end. It is a more complex system but I found it quite fun and it took some time so that pulled me away form shopping more. I also post my monthly results so that I feel bad and try to do better aka to hold myself accountable. My results for last year are not pretty but a major difference from two years ago. I spent less than half the amount 😐

      1. That’s amazing. I spent an insane amount maybe thousands the end of the year so I think tough accountability is key. Great post x

      2. I know exactly what that is like unfortunately 😰 this is the reason I embarked on the journey last year and since it worked, I want to do it again. Thank you! Hope to see you try a version of this challenge as well. Do keep us updated with your progress 🙂
