Laneige Lip sleeping mask in Sweet candy

Laneige, Laneige, Laneige. I have been wanting to try several of the extremely popular products from this brand for ages. It took me a while to find the products, but now since they are finally available in my local Sephora (wow, it feels so weird to be saying that – never thought it would happen) I decided to go for it. And I have. For the past 12 months or so, I have been trying some of the products I had only seem online or on social media until now. The product I tried most recently is the famous Lip Sleeping Mask and I am here to tell you all about it (spoiler alert: there is not really that much to tell you about it).

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Like I said in the even more awaked than usual intro (it was a bit awkward no? and I did not even go on one of my tangent or made any weird comments or used weird speak), the product I want to talk to you about today is the famous Lip Sleeping Mask. For the past few years, I have seen this mask everyone. Most recently, I started seeing the mask in a supposedly limited edition version – the Sweet Candy edition. That, I have to admit, made me even more curious to try it. I have a thing for candy flavoured lip products. Don’t ask me why as I do not really like real candy, but I love it in lip products for some reason. Maybe it is the sweetness which always makes me thing of happy, bubbly people (basically everything that I am not?).

Okay, so the lip sleeping mask comes in a jar as you can see. Together with the jar you get a small silicone applicator which makes the application a tad easier. Personally, I like using it to scoop product and then use my fingers to actually apply it. I find using the applicator a bit inconvenient as I do not have the same level of control when it comes to where the products ends up and in how thick of a layer. Using my clean, washed finger makes it way easier to get the product where I want it. However, yes, for hygiene reasons, using the applicator to scoop the product from the jar is something I do endorse.

Packaging wise, I have no comments. The products look super cute and appealing which is why I guess they amassed such a high level of popularity, especially on social media.

As for the product itself. Hmm, this is a hard one. While I do like the lip sleeping mask significantly more than most other lip sleeping masks on the market, even more than some from high end beauty brands, I do find the product to be a bit overrated. However, more than just overrated, I find it to be priced way too high. Look, the product is hydrating and leaves my lips feeling smooth and who knows, had it not been for two similar purchases I made just weeks prior, I might have been obsessed (no, I wouldn’t have been), I might have liked it quite a bit more than I do.

There is nothing wrong with the product per se. The quality is good and despite the fact that the Sweet Candy taste/fragrance is not quite what I hoped it would be, it is alright IMO. The fragrance is noticeable, but the taste not quite, which is fine. Furthermore, the scent does not feel super fake which is another plus. There are definitely some benefits to using this product, I am not disagreeing on that front, however it feels lacklustre I guess. It just does not deliver to the extent you would expect from a product in this price range.

Overall, I cannot say that you should skip this product, but I cannot recommend it either. I am not throwing mine away and I believe you wouldn’t either and not just because you paid money for it or that you do not want to harm the environment even further. No, I believe that this lip sleeping mask from Laneige can provide enough benefits to justify using it (which I totally am, even as I am writing this), however I cannot justify buying it ever again, not unless they change the formula or something.

  1. So overrated! I don’t get the hype with this one either. When I was in a country where I finally found the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask in Vanilla (Sephora!) I bought 2. But I haven’t reached for it that much. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong – but not sure I think it’s life changing. I bet they endorsed a lot of Instagrammers to post it for a while. Maybe I haven’t used it long enough…

    1. I feel exactly the same. Sadly, I found that this is not their only product that is just average. However, from everything that I have tried from them, this probably scores the highest which says a lot about the brand, but then again, I haven’t tried everything

  2. I really like it! I got the same one as you, but I got it as a Christmas gift so I guess I feel differently since I didn’t pay for it😅 I wear it during the day too not just at night and love the way it looks on!

    1. Products do seem better when they are part of a gift don’t they? 😂 but then again, when you have something to compare them to… that also plays a factor. Thank you for leaving your thoughts. I believe it is really important to hear how others found a certain product as everyone has a different experience. Also, glad you enjoy it! Personally, I haven’t had much luck with the brand.
