Then I Met You Calming Tide Gel Cream

While there are still many beauty offers I would still like to share with you just in case you missed some of them, today I wanted to share a review instead. It has been a while. Plus, I am being moody over here as I woke up earlier than usual on the one day I had planned to sleep for a bit longer so now I am cranky and sleepy and just want to focus on something different. As you can probably tell, I love my sleep.

Now, this would have been a great intro for a pillow mist or something like that, but that is not in the plans for today. Instead, I want to talk a bit about a new brand available at Cult Beauty and that is Then I Met You. More specifically, I want to talk about the moisturiser this American K-Beauty brand released.

I brought up Then I Met You up briefly before. This is a beauty brand that I have been interested in for many years, but since it was rather small at that time, the brand was only available locally or as the case may be, in the US. That is no longer true and now the brand can be purchased by people from all over the world though local distributors (very limited), but also through Cult Beauty. It might take some time, but Cult Beauty does deliver on this aspect if we are patient enough.

Okay, so let’s talk a bit about the Calming Tide Gel Cream now.

Then I Met You Calming Tide Gel Cream Review

I had no prior experience with the brand before purchasing this moisturiser so I had no idea what to expect. Starring at the product on Instagram for years does not count as much as I would like it to or as much as others are trying to make it seem like it does. I was curious as the products looked cute so I decided to give the moisturiser a try without getting my hopes up or having any sort of expectations. Honest.

There is no reason to mention just how cute the Then I Met You Calming Tide Gel Cream is. I pretty much hinted heavily at it several times already, but yes, the packaging is cute. The tube the Calming Tide Gel Cream is interesting. On one hand it suits the product quite well or the name at least, it is convenient and makes the product easy to use. It is also pretty instagrammable for sure. However, and I know this is a pretty weird thought, I started thinking about my old, glass corner shelves I have in my bathroom and realised that if I were to keep the cream with the rest of the products I use on a regular basis, I would surely drop it time and time again. It is fun to get products in funkier packaging, but it might not be as practical for everyone. I know that Then I Met You is not the only brand to ever use such a tube and it is not that big of a deal. Obviously, I found a different place to store the product and even if I had to make some changes and switch some products around so that I could keep it with the rest of the products I use regularly it would still have not been a huge deal. It just got me thinking that this is pretty much innovation for the sake of innovation rather than for practical reasons or for the purpose of improving customer experience. Lack of sleep surely does not suit me.

As for the product itself, the Tiding Gel Cream has a very light, watered down lotion like texture. It is not quite like I imagined it would be like and the texture is not one I am terribly familiar with as many other moisturisers are nothing like this one, but it is sort of nice and it works quite well. The texture might be quite unfamiliar, but it does not bother me at all.

The formula itself is paraben, sulphates, alcohol and silicone free. Also, none of the ingredients are on the EU allergen list. Speaking about ingredients, the Calming Tide Gel Cream is formulated using Madecassoside and Sodium Hyaluronate, both of which promote wound healing. In addition, you also find Niacinamide, Adenosine and Ceramide in the formula, all of which help with anti-ageing.

Niacinamide is one of my favourite ingredients in general as it is quite versatile in the sense that not only does it help with anti-ageing and even skin brightening, but it also helped me get my pores and acne under control. When it comes to Ceramides, there have been 1-2 products ever, that I know of at least, that worked for me. This time around, I had no issues and the cream actually absorbs nicely without leaving any residues nor feeling like I have an extra layer on top of my skin as I usually do when it comes to products that were formulate during this ingredient.

So yes, I pretty much spilled it for you already, but this cream works. The Calming Tide Gel Cream is an unexpected find, if I can call it that, in the sense that it works incredibly well on my oily skin. The product is very enjoyable to use, it does not leave my skin greasy and it is also hydrating. You should not expect a super high level of hydration or comfort as this is not a thick, rich cream. Also, I am not certain that it will be enough during winter months, but this summer it served me really well. I also found the product quite soothing on the skin and it did not lead to any breakouts, if anything I have the feeling that it helps breakouts away as this summer I experiences way less inflamed spots than any prior year.

Colour me impressed. While this Then I Met You moisturiser is a product that I can see myself using all the time, it is a product I will return to from time to time which is rare as far as moisturisers go. I truly enjoyed using it and I have a feeling it would go great underneath makeup as well. What sold me on it though is the fact that it does not leave my oily skin greasy at all and more so that it keeps it looking a glowy (read not dull) sort of matte for longer. I highly recommend giving it a go.

  1. When I see this packaging I think it might be hard to get the last drop of the product. It’s easy with jars, tubes I cut, but about this one?
Your review definitely got me interested to try the brand out (sometime next year, when there’s a dent in the stash…)

    1. That is also a good point! The product is pretty runny though so at least that works in its favour. Also, you should be also to cut it like the same way as you would a tube. You would not be able to use one of those key like devices you can use for tubes to squeeze everything out, but I see no reason why you would not be able to cut it. I do recommend checking out the brand. Personally, I got 3 products from them and they are pretty good. Do stay tune as I will share the rest of the reviews somewhere in between the advent calendar frenzy 🙂
