Mario Badescu is a well-known brand for skincare products. No news here. However, personally, I haven’t been as attracted to this brand as many others have been. A few years ago, the brand was a staple in everyone’s beauty stash, or at least it seemed that way. Not in mine though. To this day, all the products I used from this brand were either included in beauty boxes or were part of a gift with purchase.
I was recently introduced to their Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner so I thought it would be a great time to talk a bit about the brand on this blog and in particular about the product.
A bit about why toners are a useful product in one’s routine
I know that for many people toner is not necessarily a part of their routine or at least not an important part, but for me it is. Toners are some of the first beauty products I got to know when I was super young (around 4 years old) and they will always hold a special meaning for me. However, since discovering k-beauty and then since western beauty brands started being inspired (to avoid using a harsher word) by the superior qualifies of Asian beauty toners, I truly cannot see myself not including one such product in my routine.
I’ve mentioned this before, but toners have come a long way. They are no longer just pretty fragranced waters, as some beauty “gurus” like to call them, but they are way more.
Now toners include a low concentration of active ingredients or acids, some toners are even nearly as powerful as some serums out there. There is definitely a reason why it is worth paying attention to these products as well as including them in your routine.
Mario Badescu Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner
The toner from Mario Badescu is a light pink color and has a rosewater scent. The scent can be quite refreshing and for those who are worried – the scent is pretty faint. Personally, I do not like it, but I rarely enjoy any “rosewater” scents.
The main reason why this product appealed to me and made me want to try it is the inclusion of Witch Hazel. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but there are very few Witch Hazel products on the UK or EU market compared to the US. I could be wrong, but I have only managed to find a few such products, and most of them in Boots, particularly Boots-owned beauty brand products.
What is Witch Hazel?
Witch Hazel is a plant that has been used for hundreds of years in skincare and folk medicine. It is known for its astringent properties, but Witch Hazel also contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds.
This ingredient is a lifesaver when it comes to acne. The astringent properties of this product shrink the pores and prevent bacteria from infecting them, which will keep your face free from pesky blemishes!
My personal experience with Witch Hazel has always been positive which is why I was intrigued by this product. Witch Hazel helped me tremendously when I was dealing with some ugly breakouts a while back. Not only did it help me keep the area clean, but also its anti-inflammatory properties helped the redness and painful bumps go away faster.
Long story short, Witch Hazel is an ingredient that I have come to love deeply in skincare. Back to this particular product now…
Effectiveness of the Mario Badescu Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner
The Mario Badescu Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner does exactly what it is supposed to be doing. It balances sebum production and helps with breakouts just as expected.
I find it very effective when used twice daily – once in the morning and once in the evening after cleansing my skin. The toner even removes some of the extra fluff or whatnot leftover from drying with a towel.
Honestly, I do not really know what else to tell you other than the fact that this is a good and surprisingly gentle product that does exactly what it is supposed to be doing. It is a product that I came to love and one that I highly recommend, but if this is a product you are interested in, then I would advise trying the Lavander one instead. That one is pretty similar to this one, but in my opinion not only does it have a nicer scent to it but it is a tiny bit better.
Overall, the Mario Badescu Witch Hazel and Rosewater Toner is a product worth checking out.

Thanks for this! I’ve been meaning to try the brand and thought about starting with toners but like you said, usually it’s the Korean ones that are a good bet. I like the price range too.
This is a good product and like I’ve mentioned in the article – I highly recommend it but the Lavander version is better. Not Korean, but Witch Hazel is an ingredient worth trying 🙂
