Style Korean New Year, New Skin Box Review

It’s taken some time, but rest assured, you’re not alone in anticipating the review of the Style Korean New Year, New Skin Box. The wait for this box to arrive felt endless, but fortunately, it’s finally here, and I’m excited to share my impressions with you all now.

As is customary with these reviews, I’ll begin with the most apparent aspect – the delivery process, and then we’ll move on from there.

Delivery

As expected, Style Korean’s delivery process is impressively quick and efficient, thanks to DHL.

This particular box was even more appealing because it came with free shipping, a significant benefit given that shipping costs to my country are usually comparable to the price of a Cult Beauty limited edition beauty box. However, this isn’t the case for every country; for example, the UK enjoys much more reasonable shipping fees. Free shipping from Style Korean doesn’t happen often, but it’s definitely something to take advantage of when it does.

Why am I so enamored with this retailer despite the typically high shipping fees? Style Korean stands out among K-Beauty retailers for its commitment to freshness. The products I’ve received have often been manufactured just 2-3 weeks before shipment. Isn’t that impressive?

But let’s refocus on the main topic.

The New Year, New Skin box arrived incredibly quickly, in less than 5 working days, although it took about a month to ship out. There was a moment when I began to doubt, but fortunately, my worries were unfounded. It’s important to note that this delay is unusual for regular orders. While I’m comfortable waiting over a month for orders from YesStyle, given my expectations, Style Korean typically ships their items quickly, except for these limited editions. As such, it did make me wonder for a bit..

So they took a while to ship put the box, but once they did, it arrived rather fast. Of course, there were the custom fess to be paid as well, but I already expected it so I did not mind. For the products that I did get, it was more than worth it!

The Box

I’m about to delve into a topic that might not capture everyone’s interest, but please hang in there with me :). It’s well known that I love getting boxes like the New Year, New Skin box from Style Korean or the various advent calendars I’ve collected over the years. However, for those who are newer around here, I also have a penchant for repurposing these boxes to prevent excessive waste.

In contrast to Style Korean’s advent calendar, the New Year, New Skin box features a flap that ensures the box stays closed. This was both a surprising and welcome discovery for me. The design of this new box mimics that of an actual advent calendar, complete with charming little doors. However, I must admit, the concept puzzles me. It’s not a true advent calendar, and the choice of having 17 doors/products seems arbitrary to me. If anyone understands the reasoning behind this design choice, I’d be eager to hear it.

Fortunately, the adhesive on my box wasn’t very strong, making it quite easy to detach the card piece that held the doors without harming the box itself. If they had opted for individual little boxes, similar to their approach with the advent calendar, this step wouldn’t have been necessary.

Beneath the card layer, it was a pleasant surprise to find the products nestled in foam, which was honestly a relief. Prior to receiving the box, I had been curious about their choice of design since typically, these types of boxes contain a plastic tray with individual compartments for each product. However, that wasn’t the case here; instead, the products were securely held in place by foam or sponge. These foam bits are also very easy to remove which makes it possible for your to end up with a chest like box.

While it might not matter to many, I personally find it quite frustrating. The box itself is sturdy and incredibly charming, with a gorgeous lilac color that fits my aesthetic perfectly, which makes this issue all the more disappointing for me.

Reusing the box by positioning it horizontally is completely fine by me. However, doing so means that if the box is opened with the flap going up, the text on the flap would appear upside down. In this arrangement, the back of the box, which is almost but not entirely blank, ends up being the most visible part. It does feature a charming illustration, though I find it somewhat unnecessary.

You might think I’m overreacting, fixating on such peculiar issues, but a little more consideration in the design process could have easily avoided these problems. I can certainly live with them, but still, it begs the question: why? I’m not about to discard a perfectly functional storage box over issues like these, yet it’s undeniably frustrating :).

Honestly, this entire box should have been just a regular little box without all of this fuss. The company would have paid less on shipping that is for sure! I am not saying that I do not know why they decided to go big with the design, because that reason is rather obvious, but for the end consumer it is just a hassle.

Now I am sure you think that I’ve lost it :D.

Clearly, in the brief period since the parcel arrived, I haven’t had the chance to explore all of these goodies, nor do I intend to just yet. I’m making a concerted effort to resist the temptation of opening more beauty products than necessary before I’ve finished using the ones I’ve already started. I do not always managed to hold up this task, but I am trying my best.

Yet, examining the products up close is an entirely different experience compared to simply reading their names from a list. As always, the quality and appearance of the product packaging leave me amazed. Honestly, the packaging is pristine, and the products themselves feel fresh and look incredible – far surpassing what you’d expect from any other retailer. They exude a sense of cleanliness. I would love to visit their warehouse and see how Style Korean packs up these parcels. I wish others would do it like Style Korean does!

Anyways, the products feel super clean and shiny and it feels great to pick them up. This is the weirdest review you have ever read right?

Okay, Okay. I have tried a few of the products included in this box as I was just too curious. The Tocobo Sun Screen is one of those products.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the Tocobo sun protection stick and hadn’t considered trying the liquid version until now. Past experiences with liquid sunscreens have often left me underwhelmed, yet this one seems promising. That’s as much as I’ll say at the moment. The product is remarkably lightweight and feels wonderful on the skin. While I haven’t used it extensively enough to offer a full review, my initial impressions are positive.

Another products I like is the Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam. This is a product I have used in the past and did wonder whether I would enjoy it again. Fun fact, this is one of the very first Korean beauty products I ever purchased. I am really happy to have found it again and will try to do a much better job this time around at using it consistently and finishing it up. This is a product that did wodners for my pores in the past and hope to achieve similar results now as well. It is a bit stripping, but the way it clears the pores is just wow.

Overall, it’s important to note that the products included in the New Year, New Skin box are not just any random selection. They have been carefully curated by Style Korean to ensure a well-rounded and effective skincare routine. From cleansers to toners, serums to sunscreen, this box has got you covered.

Conclusion

Making such a substantial financial investment in a beauty product is never easy, especially when it involves international imports that incur customs fees. However, I can sincerely say that I have not had a single order from Style Korean, be it a limited edition box or a regular order, that I have not enjoyed. This one is no exception.

I can wholeheartedly say that this box was worth the wait, and I would gladly pick up the next iteration or their next limited edition large set again.

I will keep you posted as I go through the products!
