I am someone who tries her best at being a go-getter and supporter of all women. So, when I heard about Glossier from friends living abroad (I was living in the UK and Glossier was only available in North America at that point), it caught my attention immediately as the brand was founded by a woman who started making the headlines in all business magazines. I was beyond excited to try this new and innovative brand.
Glossier seemed committed to providing quality makeup for everyone without breaking the bank or fussing over boundaries as other brands do with their expensive products that only certain people can afford on a regular basis.
Things did not work out quite as I imagined they would. I placed my first order at Glossier the moment the brand landed in the UK. (I was on a huge spending bender at that point – never again!). However, my results were rather mixed as you might have seen in my review of the Hydrating Moon Mask.
Glossier Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick
Generation G by Glossier was one of the first few products that I tried from the brand. I heard many good things and saw that the product was even used by makeup artists in movie productions and if this indeed was the product used in those productions, then it looked amazing. I just had to try it.
Glossier’s Generation G is a range of beautiful matte lipsticks that are perfect for everyday wear. The shades are natural and flattering, and the formula is comfortable and long-lasting.
I was intrigued by the fact that these lipsticks are designed to be “blotted” rather than applied in a traditional way. I did learn this the hard way though.

The first lipstick that I got in shade Crush was pretty weird. The color was beautiful, but the texture pretty much reminded me of a wax crayon, like the ones that kids use when they start playing around with colors. I had to literally “melt” the product on my lips using my body heat before it could be reasonably applied. Even so, the color payoff was rather bad for a 20 USD lipstick. Well, knowing what I know now, I get it. Blotting the lipstick leads to a more uniform application, but the color is still incredibly muted. By applying the lipstick like you would do any other lipstick, you risk ending up with tiny flakes of the product on your lips.
Over time, the formula and packaging of this product changed. The next iteration (the current one as far as I know) is definitely a step up. The packaging seems more luxurious, but to be honest I was fine with the previous one. This one just feels heavier and takes up insignificantly more space.
Texture-wise, there was a clear improvement. The lipstick retained some of the characteristics of its predecessor, but it was softer and easier to apply. The color payoff was also noticeably better. Still, the colors are muted, but they are flattering as I mentioned above. Glossier’s Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick just adds a bit of something to the lips making them look more “put together”. Also, the blotting process allows for a bit of color build-up, so that is always something to keep in mind.

The staying power is also pretty good. Unlike other matte lipsticks, it won’t stay put if you drink or eat, but the color does last well through the day without requiring frequent applications. However, the main benefit of this lipstick is that it is comfortable once applied. While the lipstick is not hydrating by any means, the product does not dry your lips the way a traditional liquid matte lipstick does.
Overall, the Glossier Generation G Sheet Matte lipstick is a product I came to love. These lipsticks are my go-to for work, errands, and anything in between. Glossier might not deserve quite all the hype it has gotten, but even I have to admit that some of their products are game-changers even if most are worth skipping.
Frequently Asked Questions about Glossier’s Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick
Is Glossier Generation G Sheet Matte Lipstick worth it?
Yes. Glossier’s Generation G Sheet Matte Lipstick is one of the most popular products from the cult-favorite beauty brand. The lipstick comes in various shades, all of which are meant to be flattering on a range of skin tones. One of the best things about the Generation G Sheet Matte Lipstick is that it provides a matte finish without being drying or uncomfortable to wear. The formula is also long-lasting, so you don’t have to worry about touch-ups throughout the day. In terms of price, the Glossier Generation G Sheet Matte Lipstick is alright and in line with most lipstick prices these days, however still less than a high-end lipstick. The quality or rather the results justify the price. All in all, the lipstick is actually worth it in my opinion.
