I have not reviewed Huda all these years and it seems that I now that is all I am doing. Okay, not really, but I have reviewed more products from Huda these past couple of months than I have all these 8 years since I have been blogging. One such other review is that of the Melted Eyeshadow which you can find here.
The reason why I am now reviewing yet another Huda Beauty product is because the Power Bullet Matte Lipstick was included in the Cult Beauty Advent Calendar as the 21st product.
Here are my thoughts. This ought to be good.
Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick Review
This lipstick has to be one of the strangest lipsticks I have ever used. As the name suggests, the Power Bullet Matte Lipstick is a matte lipstick. However the way it applies is really different. The lipstick feels powdery which is an interesting feel, especially since it comes in a bullet format. I am no stranger to powder lip products, but this is a mix between a solid matte lipstick and a powder one.
Furthermore, the lipstick from Huda Beauty is pigmented. You can tap it on the lips if you want a more sheer look or you can apply it as you normally would a lipstick to experience its full power.
In terms of texture, this lipstick reminds me quite a bit of the Nars Matte Lipstick that I reviewed not that long ago. However, this Huda one is definitely more powdery.
Overall, the Power Bullet Matte Lipstick from Huda Beauty applies easily and it feels quite nice on the lips. I found that the lipstick is considerably less drying than a liquid matte one, which I have been expecting to be honest. However, it is more drying than your regular solid matte lipstick.
So far so good. But what about its staying power?
Okay, now this is going to be a strange explanation. You should be used to these if you have been following my blog for a while.
The Power Bullet Matte Lipstick from Huda Beauty is long staying. You can drink and even eat non greasy food and some of the colour will remain on the lips. This can be easily repaired with a new coat so no issues here and nothing out of the ordinary. Compared to liquid matte lipsticks you need to remember that solid ones do come off more easily. From this point of view, I think this is a good product. However, yes there is one of these. Have you met me?
The lipstick tends to smudge quite a bit as I talk. At first it looks cute as this gives the lipstick a more blurred look (which I tend to like), however I also find it concerning when it comes to colours such as ‘El Cinco de Mayo’. I feel tempted to check way too often how my lipstick looks, more often than I already do when I wear such colours. This definitely takes away from the experience. You might be able to get it to stay put using a fixer (is that what those products are called?) You know the ones? The ones that smell and taste how I assume nail polish would taste. They are specifically made for lips so don’t go trying to use something else to fix your lipstick. I am curious to see whether other colours behave the same and even if they do, they might not bother me quite as much. This kind of colour is more stressful as far as I am concerned.
Let’s talk about the colour now.
‘El Cinco de Mayo’ is quite a strange bright red shade. I said strange as I see it as a bright red, but then again there is a strange mauve undertone (can I call it that?) that makes it more balanced. It makes it prettier than your run of the mill bright reds and also a tad darker. It is a beautiful colour period. It is perfect for a night time event, for the holidays and perhaps even for a French Girl look. Personally, I believe you could use it under other circumstances, but it does depend on confidence and all that. Reds look horrible on me most of the time so I cannot really comment a lot here. I lack the attitude for everyday use… But it is a cute colour nonetheless and it looks quite nice on (yes, even on me),
Overall, I kinda like this Power Bullet Matte Lipstick from Huda Beauty. It is luxurious and has gorgeous packaging, but it is also a high quality lipstick. The pigmentation is definitely there, but I am a bit concerned about the smudging. I do want to try other shades though as there is a lot of potential when it comes to this product. ‘El Cinco de Mayo’ despite being a beautiful bright red, might just not be what I personally need though.
