7 best places to shop for beauty products in Romania

Since summer is upon us and travel is becoming once again a popular pastime, I thought it was high time to write a post on where to buy beauty products in Romania (no need to worry, other guides will follow).

For those who are unfamiliar with the country, Romania is a country in southeastern Europe, bordered by Bulgaria, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia, and Moldova.

While most people think of Romanian culture as being steeped in history and tradition, the country has a surprisingly modern side as well.

In fact, Romania is home to some of the best shopping in all of Europe! People in Romania have a huge appetite for shopping, and retailers worldwide took notice, thus the reason why you will find a huge variety of brands to shop for.

No matter what your budget is, youโ€™ll be able to find great beauty products in Romania.

The following are just a few of the many places where you can find beauty products in Romania:

#1 Farmacia Tei (translation Linden Tree Pharmacy)

Farmacia Tei is a smaller pharmacy chain in Romania, with only a few physical locations at the time of writing. However, if you are looking for a warehouse-sized store filled with beauty products and supplements this is the place to go. Not all locations are as big, but most are definitely bigger than regular pharmacies.

They also have an online shop – Google translate is your friend and you can have your parcel delivered to a physical location or an easy pickup box. The issue with the website is that it is a bit slow plus it is not the easiest to navigate and it will also show you products that are not in stock.

The reason why Farmacia Tei is worth checking out is that it carries a wide range of beauty brands ranging from Korean beauty brands to those that dermatologists often recommend as over-the-counter treatments (i.e Bioderma, CeraVe, SVR Labs etc.)

The best part about Farmacia Tei though is their pricing. The chain is very well known for its low prices both for medicine as well as cosmetics. The prices you will find are many times significantly lower than those of other stores, including other pharmacy chains. By lower I mean, 30-40% lower.

#2 Sole (Get 5% off with code SOLE3370)

This is a weird one as Sole was initially an online destination for those seeking designer perfumes, bags, and accessories at a lower price. However, in recent years they have expanded their beauty section considerably and now you can find some of the best Korean skincare brands as well as some niche natural beauty brands. Their prices are also pretty neat and the quality of the products is excellent.

#3 dm

This is a German drugstore chain that has been in Romania for quite a few years now and it is one of the most beloved beauty destinations. It is pretty similar to what you would find in a Boots store in the UK.

They sell both drugstores as well as some slightly higher-end brands. The best part about DM is that they are always up to date with the latest trends and they often have great promotions for certain products. They even have their own ranges which are definitely worth checking out – i.e Balea.

The reason why this store is a bit lower on this list is that they do carry a lot of products in common with Farmacia Tei, however, the prices of said products are higher in DM. On the other hand, DMs are widely available across the country, but they do not deliver (without resorting to third-party services of the likes of Uber, Deliveroo, and Postmates – different ones, but for a better understanding I provided the names of worldwide known ones).

#4 Sephora

Sephora is one of the most popular places to buy beauty products, not only in Romania but around the world. The store offers a wide range of high-end cosmetics, skincare products, hair care products, and more. They even have their own line of products, the Sephora Collection line which is always worth having a look at.

However, for those who have been to Sephora stores in other countries, the Romanian store might seem a little bit smaller. If you were expecting US Sephora variety of products, you will be disappointed, but it is on par with most European stores. Nevertheless, it is still definitely worth checking out!

#5 Douglas

Douglas is a German cosmetics retailer that has a strong presence in Romania. The store offers a wide range of mid-priced beauty products, making it a great place to find affordable cosmetics, skincare products, hair care products, etc.

One of the best things about Douglas is that they are always running some sort of promotion or sale, so itโ€™s easy to find bargains if you keep your eyes peeled.

In addition, Douglas is one of the few places where you can find brands such as Kylie Cosmetics, Indeed Labs, and more.

One word of caution, however: stay away from older-looking products or those that do not have a clean, proper-looking seal in place.

#6 Bath and Body Works

This is an American brand that finally arrived in Romania in 2022 and it was very well received.

The store offers a wide range of body care products, including body lotions, body scrubs, shower gels, etc. They also have a great selection of candles and room fragrances.

There is only one store in the entire country, but if you do not have access to the brand and you find yourself in Bucharest/Baneasa to be more specific then it is worth checking out as the brand still has a very limited presence in Europe. If you live in the UK, then skip this one as the products are available at Next.

#7 Supermarkets

As in any other country, supermarkets are an interesting place to look for beauty products.

In Romania, you can find some great beauty products at supermarkets such as Auchan, Carrefour, and more. The prices are usually very good and you can find some great deals if you keep your eyes peeled.

In addition, each of these supermarket chains has its own range of beauty products which are definitely worth checking out. Carrefour essentials are perhaps the best ones you could pick up.

This list is intended mostly for travelers or for those who will spend some time in Romania. If you are Romanian and wish to know where you can shop for beauty outside what can be perceived as quite obvious aka the above list, then I also recommend checking out:

all of which deliver to Romania without too much hassle or additional taxes.

There are also some other retailers such as Parfimo (name varies depending on country) and Notino (same goes for tis one), however these retailers are available in most countries in one form or another and I doubt you will find something you cannot pick up in your home country.

So there you have it, a list of the best places to buy beauty products in Romania. Whether you are looking for drugstore beauty products or high-end cosmetics, you will be sure to find what you are looking for at one of these stores.

Happy shopping!
