Dermalogica holds a very special role in my heart as it was one of the brands that got me more invested into skincare. Until I tried Dermalogica, most of the stuff I tried did not really do much for my acne, but it all changed when I tried Dermalogica. So yes, for me the brand is very special.
This begs the question.
Is the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel just as good as the rest of the products that I tried before? Read below to find out.
What is Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel?
A you probably guessed by now, the Dermalogica Special Cleaning Gel is a face cleanser (duh!). The reason why the product is considered to be oh so special is due to the fact that it is soap free. As such, the product should be able to clean the skin without disturbing its balance, without stripping it of too many of its natural oils. Does it really do that?
How does the Dermalogica Cleansing Gel work?
Using the cleanser is super easy and there are no extra steps that need to be taken other than what you are probably used to. You lather a small amount of gel onto your wet face and throat and then you rinse it with water. Super easy, even though slightly unpleasant for those who dislike water (don’t judge me! it can happen).
Does the Dermalogica Cleansing gel work?
Yes and not really. The gel does its job and does it well, but not great. There is nothing special about the product other than its formulation. I have yet to see any major differences or any better yet, when compared to my regular cleansers.
The Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is not as harsh as some other products on the market. That is true! However, it does not leave my skin super comfortable either. I had much better cleansers at a much lower price point.
Furthermore, the gel is fragrance free or at least it seems like it. This is one thing in their favour in my opinion. The other face wash I tried from the brand had such a strong fragrance and it smelled like a hospital that it made me not want to use it. However, that face cleanser was part of a treatment series so maybe that is why.
Do I recommend the Special Cleansing Gel?
Not really, sorry! If you love Dermalogica and want a soap free formulation then go for it. However, you might be able to find other soap free products on the market. The Special Cleansing Gel is not super bad, but in my opinion, it is nothing special either.
Overall, I found that the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is an adequate product that does its job, but despite its name, the product is nothing special. Unless you find expensive special, that is.
