Fresh is a brand that you either love or hate. Why do I say that? Many reasons. One of the reasons why people love their products is because they are ‘fresh’. The brand is the epitome of high end clean beauty and their approach is quite distinctive. However, because of this reason, their products are also very different which is not always the best thing. But then again, even if you find yourself on either side, you might just want to cross over for a product or two (or because of a product or two). Enough rambling. Let’s talk about the 17th product included in the Fortnum and Mason advent calendar – the Caramel Lip Balm.
Fresh Caramel Lip Balm
The Caramel Lip Balm from Fresh comes in a nice, small plastic pot. Yes, it is one of those. I don’t normally seek out potted lip balms as I hate getting my fingers in the product which is pretty much what happens here. I hate getting my fingers sticky, but I also worry about getting bacteria in my product as no matter how clean my hands are or I think they are, my first year at university proved otherwise (Lab where I had the brilliant idea of drying my hands on a towel before doing the experiment). Since then, I have been avoiding such products as much I could, given what I do… Anyway, that is a big disappointed as far as I am concerned, but there are ways around that if you really want to find one.
Okay, leaving the jar aside. This lip balm from Fresh is advertised as being a Caramel Lip Balm. I am a sucker for caramel, like there is honestly nothing that tastes better than caramel. Okay, maybe I do like candy floss better, but caramel is still at the top of my preferences. However, this Caramel lip balm does not smell very much like caramel. But that is not the biggest thing that irked me. The fact that this balm does not taste at all like caramel is what got me. That is the thing about Fresh and especially about their lip products; they never really taste or smell the way you expect them to.
Okay, I am being a bit petty right now. The lip balm from Fresh feels nice on the lips so that is what matters right? You can feel the balm on the lips, but you can get used to the feeling quite easily as it is not super sticky nor really that thick. When it comes to whether this balm is actually any good, I would say yes. You need to apply the balm repeatedly throughout the day and for a prolonged period of time, but you do start noticing its effects. The lip balm in Caramel from Fresh is nourishing.
There are definitely some pluses and minuses when it comes to this balm. Personally, I am never going to buy this again even though it is super cute. I am not a potted lip balm kinda gal so.. If only it would actually have a caramel like taste maybe I would have given it another chance, but this is really not the right product for me. Too bad as even though I have not said it above, I am one of those that do love Fresh.
