Royal Fern PhytoActive Skin Perfecting Essence

Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence Review

With this review, I officially declare the Christmas season open. Yes, I know. I have no authority to do this, but think of it as a symbolic gesture or something. Okay, so I am kicking off today by sharing the first review of a product included in one of the 2020 beauty advent calendars. The product in question is the Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence and the calendar – Niche Beauty.

Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence Review

I am not sure about you, but personally I had no idea this brand even existed before getting the niche Beauty Advent Calendar. If you are in the same boat as I found myself in a few months back, here are some of the basic things you need to know about the brand: the brand was created by dermatologist Dr. Timm Golueke and it is a plant based luxury skincare brand.

Okay, so let’s talk about the product now. First of all the Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence is like the name suggests, an essence. What is an essence and what does it do?

I talked about essences briefly in the past, but to recap, an essence is very similar to a toner, but it usually contains more active ingredients. Most if not essences I encountered so far had a hydrating component, but overall they simply made my other skincare products work harder, if nothing else. I noticed a visible increase in absorption of other skincare elements with repeated use of essences and in combination with essences.

This product from the Royal fern was no different. There is definitely an increase in product absorption as well as increase in skin hydration. I have no doubt about that. However, the cocktail of plant based active ingredients does seem to provide more results than those mentioned previously. I am really glad about this as not only it makes the product a great addition to my routine, but it also does more or less what it is supposed to do.

Oh yes, the Royal Fern Phytoactive Skin Perfecting Essence is supposed to moisturise, balance and exfoliate the skin. It pretty much does all of that. I already touched upon the moisturising element a bit above, but let’s talk about exfoliation.

The product has been formulated using a combination of anti-inflammatory fern extracts, fruit acid, and gluconolactone. The fruit acid and gluconolactone (a PHA) help exfoliate the skin and also help clear the pores. However, unlike other products, this essence is non-stripping. I found the product to be incredibly gentle actually. And as an additional benefit, not only did the essence leave my skin feeling super smooth as the result of exfoliation, but it also helped normalise my sebum production. My oily skin is significantly less oily and with repeated use, these effects started becoming more and more noticeable.

The essence did not take away all the oiliness, but it improved the situation considerably and if you have oily skin, I am sure you can appreciate just how amazing that is! Not only that, but, these two effects – exfoliation and less sebum production helped me deal with breakouts a bit better as well by having less clogged pores.

I cannot talk about well this product protects you against environmental factors, pollution and all that. However, the effects I have seen and experienced so far have me pretty much sold on this product. This essence from Royal Fern is a simple addition to my skincare routine, but one that makes a great difference,

All you need to do is apply this product after properly cleansing you skin and then follow with the rest of the steps in your routine.

The product is vegan and formulated without parabens or mineral oils. However, it does contain masking fragrances. I know some of you do not like using fragrances in your products so I had to mention this. For those that do not mind, this product has a faint scent and after application you won’t be able to sense it anymore.

Overall, I love this product from the Royal Fern and I am curious to try more from this brand. I do want to emphasise once again that this is a luxury skincare brand and the products do have a price tag that reflects that, however in this particular instance I do believe it is worth it. Plus, a little goes a long way and it will last you a while. There are many other more expensive products out there that render less results. I recommend this essence.
