I first tried Huxley back in September when I got the Harvey Nichols Gift with Purchase from Autumn 2018. Back then I had no idea which products to choose from the store’s Beyond Beauty lineup. The products I had in mind to purchase were not qualifying products for the promotion so I decided to venture outside the brands I knew and trust the knowledge of Harvey Nichols’ Beauty Team. Thus, I ended up with several products from Huxley.
However, now I am not going to talk about any of those products. Instead, I am going to talk about a product that I got more recently. Yes, this was another product that I purchased from Harvey Nichols in order to qualify for a gift with purchase. I mean why would I not? The GWP from HN are legendary and this last one, even more so.
So this March, I finally got my hands on Huxley’s serums and the one I want to talk to you about today is the Huxley Oil Essence serum. I am not entirely sure whether I should even call it a serum, but it surely feels like one.
As I was saying, the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence is a face product that feels pretty much like a serum. It has a pretty smooth texture and feels really nice and not at all sticky to touch.
It is not sticky on the face either. As you apply the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence on your face you might notice that it takes the product just a bit to absorb, but not longer than a regular serum. You skin might also look a bit wet until the product dries, but afterwards you will be left with just a natural and healthy glow and none of the wetness. Hope this made sense. However, this is definitely not one of those skincare products that make it seem like you have some sort of highlighter all over. No, there is another serum from the brand that does that, but more onto that later.
The Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence is not necessarily about the glow, even though it does give your skin one. The product is more about hydration. The Oil Essence from Huxley leaves you skin super hydrated and feeling incredibly comfortable. From this perspective, the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence is a great product. However, I have to admit that I noticed that I need a lot more product that I do hyaluronic acid serums which also serve a similar function. For this reason, I ran out of product after a month…That being said, I don’t regret my purchase.
Okay, so I discussed the texture a bit and I talked about what the product does so I guess one other thing that is left for me to address is the name – oil essence. What is that about?you might wonder.
Well, the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence does indeed act pretty much like an essence. Face Essences are notoriously known for they ability to increase the skin’s ability to retain moisture and absorb product. They might look like toners, but they are are not toners, even if some do feel toner like. Perhaps is the reason why I need more product than I usually do. So from this point, the name is very much appropriate.
Now, how about the oil part of the name? Is that suitable? Hmm, it is not really like an oil. Maybe you can considered it like a very watered down version of an oil. Yes, I guess you could call it that. The wet look surely looks like a result of an oil, but the moment the product absorbs, any oil like wetness completely disappears.
I guess that the name is quite appropriate overall and it is not just a marketing gimmick this time. However, the product is not that different from a serum. It acts the same way, it feels the same way and the texture is also pretty much what you would expect to find in a serum so even though the name is indeed appropriate I would clarify this product as a serum. Hope this clarifies things a bit and answered some of the questions you might have had.
Another thing that I should mentioned is that this product is fragranced. The fragrance is not overpowering nor cheap. It fact, the product has such a beautiful natural smell to it. To me it reminds me of hyacinth maybe, but others tend to disagree. In fact, the fragrance is caused by some species of cacti, if I got my information right. Anyway, it is very pleasant and I love having it on my skin.
Overall, I am in love with the Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence. I will undoubtedly get more bottles of this product and I will continue to explore the range. So far, this brand is one of my favourite Korean beauty brands. It is perhaps a bit more expensive than other Korean beauty products, but the prices are still reasonable – the serum is priced at 38 GBP. However, the brand and its products sure feel more expensive and luxurious than your typical K-Beauty product. But just like most K-Beauty products, the Huxley Oil Essence is effective and pretty darn amazing.
