Gabrielle by Chanel Fragrance Review

The other day my mother asked which new fragrance I wanted as a birthday gift. She was asking for a family friend that always gets me a new fragrance for every single holiday or special event. I did not mind as I love fragrances.

I repeat, I love fragrances. I love them so much that I cannot just have a signature one. I might have three or so that I buy again and again, but there is no just one that I wear. That would not work for me.

Scent is a very personal thing and for me the fragrance needs to match my mood. For this reason, my collection is constantly growing. However, my mother’s question made me have a second look at my fragrance shelf and for the first time, I realised just how crowded that shelf was. So I started cleaning it up a bit and putting aside the fragrances that I know I won’t be wearing during the warmer seasons. Moving some fragrances to a different place might not solve my problem, but it definitely made my shelf look more acceptable and in turn, it helped me rediscover an old favourite – Gabrielle by Chanel.

Gabrielle by Chanel Review

Gabrielle by Chanel is not a new fragrance. It first came out in 2017 and since then it made some friends and some enemies. I totally get that! This is the first ever fragrance from Chanel that I actually liked enough to purchase.

But let’s not get off track (again).

Just like what you would expect from Chanel, Gabrielle is a sophisticated fragrance that comes with a hefty price tag attached. Is that price worth it? Is the fragrance worth it?

Yes, it is (on both counts). To me at least, it is. However, fragrances are a very personal thing as I felt the need to mention above.

I am not going to discuss the price any further as Gabrielle’s price tag is similar to that of most high end fragrances. Do I wish the price was different? Yes, of course. But it is what it is.

Now, let’s talk about what actually matters – the quality and scent of the Gabrielle by Chanel fragrance.

Gabrielle by Chanel, like I said above, is a very sophisticated fragrance. The scent is feminine and yet a bit daring, but not overpowering.

The fragrance has a medium lasting power I would say and it is perfect for daytime, but you could pul it off at night as well. It works well with a more romantic and really feminine outfit at night rather than a femme fatale getup though.

As for the seasons this fragrance works best during, I would have to say definitely spring and early or very late summer. This is mostly due to the notes.

Gabrielle by Chanel Fragrance Notes

  • Top notes: mandarin, grapefruit, blackcurrant
  • Heart: tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine and orange blossom
  • Base notes: sandalwood, musk

Despite the top notes, personally I sense the heart and the base notes more than the top layer. The fragrance is floral, but not obnoxiously so. The scent is elegant is not overly girly. It is a fragrance that was clearly created for women, but as the campaign meant to show – it is a rebel, passionate and yet feminine scent.

The something extra, the thing that makes this fragrance stand out is the addition of the top notes which are more citrusy. However, I found that the notes are faint and are there just to add something more to the fragrance rather the overpower the rest of the notes.

So what I am saying is that if you are looking for a very citrusy scent, then this is not it.

Conclusions

Overall, Gabrielle by Chanel is a fragrance that I adore and I do not regret buying. I know that many people have do not feel very fondly about this fragrance and that is okay. However, I am glad that I decided to give it a shot as it proved to be a very good investment.

Gabrielle by Chanel is a unique fragrance in its own way, just like its inspiration. It is a fragrance that I do find myself wearing on days I wish to break free…

I actually love Chanel fragrances and have a big collection of them, within my already huge collection of perfume. Like you, I’m also a perfume enthusiast lol. And it’s very hard to pick my signature scent!! But anyways, off topic. While I love Chanel scents, I’m actually not a huge fan of this one. I smelled it back when it came out so I’m gonna check it out again, but I think it’s just that I’m not a fan of ylang-ylang and jasmine. I’m glad you enjoy it, though. Fragrances really fit and conform to the person wearing them.

      Thank you for reading.

Yes, of course. I totally agree. Personally, I was quite surprised that I liked him given just how much I dislike the rest of Chanel’s fragrance (no matter how much I want to like them). However it has been pretty interesting to note that more people than not do not like Gabrielle. I never encountered this amount of dislike or hate with any of my fragrances before. Quite interesting indeed
