You wouldn’t even believe me if I were to tell you just how many times I wanted to post about the Bum Bum Cream from Sol de Janeiro. Some of you might have noticed that I recommended it here and there when it came to things you could buy to qualify for a gift with purchase or another. I have also spoken about it briefly when the cream was included in one such gift. However, I have not fully reviewed it until now.
There are many things I could say about the Bum Bum cream, but none would truly do it justice.
I started using Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum cream back in 2017 when the product was included in two luxury beauty advent calendars, the Harrods one and perhaps the Liberty one. The details are not that important. Ever since, I went though several full sized jars of the product as well as tried nearly the entire range from the brand.
I could go on and on about my ‘affair’ with the product, but let’s move on to what actually matters. Shall we?
What is Sol de Janeiro’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream?
Normally, I would not answer this question when reviewing a product, but with some pretty strange product showing up on the beauty market, I believe that it is important for me to do so.
The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream from Sol de Janeiro is not a cream for your, well, bum. I believe this is just one of those unfortunate cases where the translation was not as smooth or maybe it was intentional. In my opinion and I could be terribly wrong, the name was inspired by the sounds caused by the drums used during the Rio festival. Again, I could be wrong.
The Brazilian Bum Bum cream is a body cream. It is product that you can use all over your body. And having spent way too much time on Reddit lately, I have to say that this product should not get in touch with the skin on your face. It is not one of those creams.
Why is the Bum Bum cream so special?
Not only the Bum Bum cream has an amazing scent, but it is also highly effective.
Let’s rewind a bit.
The scent of the Bum Bum cream can be considered quite strong by some, personally I find it okay. The scent is definitely stronger than what you normally find in body care products, I give it that, but it is not that overpowering. Maybe don’t apply the cream right before applying perfume? Yeah, that won’t work, unless you choose to go with the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Mist.
As for the fragrance itself, it is quite sweet and that is due to its caramel notes. Despite this fact, I would not categorise the scent as overly feminine. It is too complex for that. Plus, if you’ve read one of the articles written by my friend Ana over at The Lolas Diaries, then you would know that her hubby also loves the scent both on her and himself. And he is a rum kind of man. In short, the scent is sweet, but not overly feminine.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s focus on what makes this product so amazing.
The answer is pretty simple. It works!
Not only does the Bum Bum cream leave your skin moisturised and smelling amazing, but it also tightens and improves skin texture.
In the years since I started using it, I noticed quite a bit of improvement. While the skin might not remain looking as good once you discontinue the use of the product, when you do use it, the skin tightens considerably and not in a bad way. It does not make your skin uncomfortable, it just makes it look more toned. The Brazilian Bum Bum cream also makes most of skin bumps smaller or nearly invisible. I can get behind that!
Honestly, the biggest drawback (if we can even call it that) is the scent which some people cannot stand. Personally, I love it and I cannot get enough. However, if you are sensitive when it comes to fragrances then you might want to get a small jar or try it in store if you can find it, before making a bigger investment. I don’t want to be categorial here and say to not buy or try it at all as you could be missing out on a product that is truly great.
Overall, the Brazilian Bum Bum cream is one of the best products on the market and I urge you to give it a try. You have no idea what you are missing out on.
