Revolve Beauty Advent Calendar Review

Okay, so I am back with what is probably the last review of a beauty advent calendar for this year. For my health and that of my wallet, it better be, but you never know since almost every single day a new calendar is released. Plus, with Black Friday just around the corner…. Anyway, in the meantime, here is the review of the Revolve Beauty Advent Calendar

Revolve Beauty Advent Calendar Review

Full disclosure, this is a calendar that I was tempted by from the first time I saw it, but I then decided to skip it. However, as it happens, I found the tab opened in my browser and had a second look,. It was at the end of a stressful day that seemed to be never ending. It was after 10PM and I still had work to do and at the other end of the room, the TV was on CNN as we were waiting for the US election results and one thing led to the other. I pretty much decided that my hard earned money should be spent….

Honestly, this purchase surprised me as well and I was quite tempted to cancel my order. There was also a bit of guilt involved. I decided to stick with it as one, I got it on sale and two, I never ordered anything from Revolve to my home country. I only placed orders to the UK which is treated differently than the EU. When it comes to Revolve orders. This is not a political stance or anything.

UK prices include all taxes and duties so the price you see is the price you pay. You order just as you would on any other local website and that is it. For the EU, you get the taxes calculated at checkout. You can choose to pay them then and there which makes everything easier. However for certain countries in the EU, you might need too fill in the customs declarations upon the request of the courier despite having paid the taxes. You do not need to make further payments, just to fill in the forms and basically sign that you agree to take on any responsibility for the contents of your parcel. It is just a bureaucratic process for the courier firm to cover its a**.

Personally , I had to fill in the forms and I was a bit freaked out as I have never done anything like it before. I also conveniently forgot that I might need to do so when ordering anything from outside the union even though I had just learnt this information a few days prior to placing the order. I was looking into another retailer at that time. Oh well… it was fine as you will see below.

Price and Value

The calendar was priced at $125 without taxes and duties, however I managed to get mine with taxes and all for $120 (91 GBP) rather than pay the price advertised for the UK (this contains all taxes and everything) of £115.

The retail value of this calendar is of $325 so around £245.

Delivery

Despite the initial worries that emerged once I realised that I would have to fill in some customs declarations, the delivery process was incredibly fast. The parcel was delivered in one piece in 5 days. The parcel was delivered by FedEx (at home) and everything ran smoothly. The route of the parcel was a bit strange as the parcel kept going west and then east and then west again, but luckily, everything moved super fast and the parcel arrived in one piece.

The calendar was delivered is a box that could have fit 5 calendars and there was only a bit of bubble wrap and lots of space. The calendar itself was wrapped and then placed in a parasitic bag. Despite this, the calendar was in one piece and in mint condition. Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised that the calendar was not inspected (opened) upon arrival to the customs office in my country. There was nothing shady inside of course, but I wanted the calendar to be in a photographable condition. The things we do for the gram/blog? Yeah, me not so much, but still…

The calendar was delivered at home and unopened as if it never went through a long vetting process and crossed many borders. It was like it was sent from somewhere in the country and that is the kind of experience I expected and I got it. I was really happy to see that things have changed and that I can get international (non EU) parcels without too much hassle. It was time!

Also, like I mentioned above, the delivery to the UK is very different. You can read more about ordering from Revolve if you live in the United Kingdom here.

Calendar Box

Okay, so this is a calendar that comes in a briefcase sort of box which is filled with 24 smaller boxes that house the items in between paper noodles.

The briefcase is flat (only a few cm in depth) which is actually a nice thing. You can store papers or art projects but even if you decide to store beauty items, you can at least get the box to fit in tight places. Oh my gosh, sometimes I came up with the strangest comments, don’t I? My point is that the box is different than others and I can actually see myself trying to squeeze it in some empty space that was left unsure as I never had anything to fit there. Trying to maximise space and all that.

The boxes inside are alright. Simple, but reusable if you really want to.

Comments

This is really hard. As I mentioned above, I was pretty unsure about this calendar from Revolve. The calendar seemed really nice even at first glance and the products inside are nothing to frown upon, but I was unsure about the sizes. The products are in sample deluxe size with the exception of the Summer Fridays Mask which I already owned and never/rarely used. However, as I started playing with the items, I actually started appreciating the products more. At the end of the day, this calendar contained perhaps more products that I have never used than most other calendars on the market. Furthermore, it even included brands that are are not available in Europe and/or brands that I never saw a sample of included anywhere ever. This is something that I did end up finding useful and that eased my guilt over making this impulse purchase.

Despite my initial reluctance and second guessing myself for a while there, I am actually glad that I made this purchase, Cannot wait to share with you the products reviews this upcoming December and later.

The calendar is still available for purchase here.
