Using More, Spending Less Challenge Results – January 2024

January seems to have passed by in a blink, and yet, looking back, it appears as if it were ages ago. Regardless, here we stand on the brink of an exciting journey. We’re about to launch a new series documenting my escapades in the world of beauty shopping, which we hope will span 12 posts.

For the past couple of years, my results have stayed relatively steady. Yet, I hold onto the hope that this year will bring about some improvement, even if it’s just a slight one.

Are you ready to dive in?

Allowance from posts

Allowance from Reviews – £30

Allowance from Social Media – £0

Other – £94.26

Total allowance from posts: £124.26

£10.64 (allowance from empties) + £124.26 (allowance from posts) – £197.45 (January’s Spending) – £3434.19 (previous closing balance) = -£3496.74

Okay so my huge plans of staying away from shopping in January went down the drain right from the start of the month. I resisted the urge to place an order at YesStyle even though I was itching to do so, but when one of you *wink let me know that the Net-a-Porter Advent Calendar was on sale, I just had to. I got that freaking calendar so many times at full price only for it to then become discounted that this time I had to get it even though I was not particularly interested in it. It turned out for the best though so absolutely no regrets there.

Since I broke my no buy, I did get the YesStyle order as well. The reason why the prices for the products I picked up at YesStyle are all the same for every product is because I found it easier this way to do the math. I used two types of discount codes plus the little commission I had (thank you!!!) and my total was quite low.

The only other order I placed was at Beauty Bay. I am not sure what will happen to that one as I never ordered from them to my country nor did I manage to find anyone who has since Brexit. I am quite worried about it, but I decided to risk it as I really wanted the box I picked up but also I would like to know whether I truly need to carry my haul from across Europe after fighting with a store clerk at a local convenience store where I would have to go and pick it up. It is complicated. Knowing that I can order straight to my home though would help as I would avoid overshopping.

This is it about my purchases. Nothing really interesting or out of the ordinary rather happened here.

How did you do in January?

  1. My stash got bigger in January, lol. Now I’m trying to keep discipline and use at least on average 3 products from a given category before considering buying anything.

On a separate note, are Miss Piggy patches good?
