I don’t have a ton of experience with Surratt Beauty. In fact I think that is kind impossible if you take into account just how many products the brand has available, but that is a matter for another time. However, most of my experience from Liberty of London and in particularly, it was gained because of their beauty advent calendars. Surprise, surprise. This is no different as the Surratt Beauty Lid Lacquer in Komugi was included in the Liberty Beauty Advent Calendar in 2019.
Okay, so with the awkward intro out of the way let’s get on with the review. They do get more cringe worthy, or is it just me?
Lid Lacquer in Komugi Review
The Surratt Beauty Lid Lacquer is an eye gloss inspired by a Japanese lacquer technique called urushi. You should totally check out the technique; it looks really beautiful! On the other hand, I am super happy to see that the brand still promotes the Japanese cultures even if it uses techniques and concepts and applies them in a different way. I do like brands that introduce people to different cultures and give you an opportunity to learn something new that goes beyond the products themselves.
Okay, so let’s get back to the product. As I was saying above, the lid lacquer from Surratt Beauty is actually a lid gloss. However, this eye gloss is not sticky despite being able to help you achieve a dewy finish.
The eye gloss is non sticky as I was saying and in terms of formulation, I would say that this product from Surratt Beauty is rather creamy. This fact makes the product easy to apply and control. You can achieve a barely there colour or a really opaque one, depending on the amount of product you use.
In terms of formulation and level of pigmentation as well as the way it looks on, I would say that this product is a must try.
But what about the shade ‘Komugi’?
The shade is perfect for a base on which you can build upon, but personally I really do not have other uses for it. The colour is a muddy brown which is really not my kind of colour. The shade is pretty unflattering I would say. This is really a shame. However, it might work better for those of you who love a neutral look. You definitely have more room to play with it in that sense.
Overall, I definitely would say to give the product a try. Personally, I found that the Lid Lacquer is high quality and very luxurious. The formulation is beautiful and the product really does apply pretty great. I am sold on the product, but not so much on the shade. I look forward to trying out new shades.
