Youth to the People Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner

With Youth to the People finally making its way to the United Kingdom via Cult Beauty and as such becoming more easily accessible, I decided that it was time to review one of their products. The first product I chose to review is their Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner.

YTTP Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner Review

I honestly do not even know where to start when it comes to reviewing this product. On one hand, I love the idea behind this product as it makes the inclusion of acids, especially of a very useful acid such as AHA incredibly easy. However, that is not necessarily a very good thing as it can lead to abuse. Yes, there are way too many people out there since the whole craze with the Ordinary who are using acids they have no business using. I am referring mainly to teenagers here, but not only.

AHA or alpha hydroxy acid is a chemical exfoliator that helps achieve more evenly pigmented and smoother skin by removing dead cells.

It sounds pretty good, no? It can seem quite appealing to try it when you read it like that. However, it is incredibly important not to over do it as these acids can be quite strong and you do not want to solve one issue just to end up with another due to over-exfoliation.

When it comes to the Youth to the People Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner, the concentration is on the higher side. That is the very first thing you need to consider before even considering purchasing this product.

For reference, I have oily/combination skin with dehydrated patches. I have rarely reacted to any products. However, from the very first time I tried this one, I found it to be a tad strong. The Kombucha combination makes it feel a bit more soothing in a really weird way, but still, it freaking stung. I do want to mention that I have been using AHA on and off for years now. I started with something called a Golden Liquid or something from Alpha Beta I believe the brand is called back in 2014 or so. That is a long time…I really did not expect to feel the effects of this toner from Youth to the People the way that I have. When I see the word toner next to some acid, I think of Pixi by Petra and their products. This is nothing like that. This is the real deal and honestly, I would not call It a toner. It is a bit misleading, not really but I hope you know what I mean. This product is not exactly what I think of when I think toner.

So yes, I found the Youth to the People Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner to be a lot the first time. As I started using it more, I did not feel as harsh, but it is still more than I felt comfortable using more than once per well. Yes, I used this product once per week with no other exfoliating products in my routine and I found it to be more than I needed anyway.

The product has a not that nice scent to it, but you get used to it. Most AHA acid solutions smell awful so there should be no surprises there. However, what I disliked quite a bit is that it left my skin feeling a bit sticky. That felt rather gross or at least not at all appealing. Adding moisturiser on top sure helps, but eww. That is not a feeling I want to get form my skincare, really now.

Still though, this AHA power toner from Youth to the People is one of the most stable such products that I used so far. However, I do find the concentration to be a bit too high for me and high in general actually. As such, I might consider using it in the future if I get it in a goody bag or something, but I honestly do not believe I will purchase a full size version of it even though it did leave my skin feeling a bit softer.

Overall, this product is an option for non beginners to AHA, but do consider you skin type and your sensitivity. This product is definitely not for everyone. It sure ain’t perfect for me.
