Using More, Spending Less Challenge Results – May 2021

This is going to be a weird post and let me tell you – a tad boring. Well, it was going to be boring until this happened and things kinda changed after that. I have to say that for once I was looking forward to seeing my total spending and less so about actually writing this post and having you read it. Boring is definitely not a word I want to ever be associated with my person. Really, no thank you as, D-0 would say. Seriously now, I hope you will enjoy having a look at my May results in regards to beauty spending and do share your own results below. Shall we begin?

Purchases

CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream 177ml – £10.46

Gisou Propolis Infused Polishing Primer – £27.95

Susanne Kaufmann Shampoo & Shower Gel 250ml – £46.29

Niche Beauty Conscious Bag Beauty Kit – £82.10

Without trying, I ended up spending £166.8. I was being sarcastic obviously. To borrow the words of one of my favourite characters – Elle Wood’ – “like it’s hard?”. If anything, I tried my best not to make any purchases thus the reason I was worried this post would be incredibly boring as I would have had basically nothing to write about. Now, we couldn’t have that, right?

Empties

Noble Isle Fireside Shower Gel 50ml – worth £4.2

It’s Skin Aloe Toner – worth £5.50

Soroci Calming Essence – worth £14.18

Purito Green Level Centella Eye Cream – worth £7.45

In May, I ended dup using up £31.33 worth of product and as such, my allowance from empties this month is £15.65.

All kidding aside, I did my best to avoid spending any money on beauty this month. Had it not been for a moisturiser that from CeraVe that we got for my grandfather(not counted here), I would have not purchased anything from the brand myself and would have made it to the end of May without any purchases. Now, that would have been a first! It seemed like that for a long while in any case.

I made not one, but two trips to Sephora and I carefully analysed every single one of the shelves and I left without purchasing anything. Anything at all! It was kinda embarrassing as I looked suspicious even, if the security guard following me around was of any indication. I hope that it is clear that I did not steal anything either. I shouldn’t even have to specify this so I have no idea why I just did. People stop me before I make it worse. Please.

Okay, I am good now.

Seriously, I did not get anything in Sephora which is so rare for me. You know that! I was trying to be good despite having had an incredibly stressful month. I was already thinking about what I could possibly write in this article since a few days ago I had just one empty and one purchase. It was too good to be true. I should have known it would not last. It obviously didn’t. I just had to go and get myself a beauty gift with purchase, didn’t I? Well, I obviously did not, but it was so cute and thus made the choice to go for it. I do not regret it, but I would have loved to have something to brag about – I am talking about my lack or purchases duh. For me that would have been a true accomplishment and those who know me, you know I am not kidding. It is no secret that I have gone overboard time and time again. It wasn’t meant to be.

I could say that there is always next month, except, I know that won’t be the case. It is my birthday month so I am definitely going to make some purchases. It would be absolutely foolish of me to think that I won’t. That is not to say that I wouldn’t love to avoid making any purchases, but who are we kidding. Last year, it was the month when I finally went crazy with my purchases and things only spiralled from there. This year, I am hoping that at least I can hold onto the whole not going beyond -£2500, but even that is kind of a stretch right now given the whole advent calendar season that is starting really soon. It is crazy, but hey, Christmas a July is totally a thing. If it can be for Hallmark, then it can be for the beauty industry as well.

Let’s do the math now.

£15.65(Allowance from empties) + £35 (Allowance from posts) – £166.8 (May’s Spending) – £2251.34 (previous closing balance) =-£2367.49

This is bad. This is really bad. If I were to get one more beauty gift with purchase, well not this latest one from Cult Beauty which is a rarity, but any of the usual gifts, then I would definitely go beyond -£2500. I might have a high value product which I am going to empty soon, but even that won’t help much. I don’t know whether I actually have any other items, deluxe size or full size that I am going to finish next month. It is pretty scary to even think about this so I will leave that for our next conversation on the topic. It is what it is. I am not going to stress myself out over it, but rather focus more on making sure I have a good skincare routine and that I stick with it. It matter way more than making sure I empty some more products, even if I could use the space.

I know I said this before, but here’s hoping that next month will be better! How did you do in May?
